Soap Dispensers, Backspace Annoyances, and Android Folders

Soap Dispensers, Backspace Annoyances, and Android FoldersReaders offer their best tips for getting more control out of your soap dispenser, stopping Firefox's annoying backspace behavior, and grouping together your bookmarks in Android.

Every day we receive boatloads of great reader tips in our inbox, but for various reasons?maybe they're a bit too niche, maybe we couldn't find a good way to present it, or maybe we just couldn't fit it in?the tip didn't make the front page. From the Tips Box is where we round up some of our favorites for your buffet-style consumption. Got a tip of your own to share? Add it in the comments, email it to tips at lifehacker.com, or share it on our tips and expert pages.

Use a Rubber Band for Better Pump Control

UberMario stops his soap pump from overflowing:

A lot of products, especially hair and skincare/makeup products, come with massive pumps that don't give you much control of how much they dispense.

Try wrapping a rubber band around the base of the pump and see how easy it is to dispense much less product without pushing on it like it's a baby's head.

Also, if the product dispersed is too little, just flip up the lowest band segment to give the tiniest more lenience and go from there.

Turn Off Firefox's Annoying Backspace Shortcut

Josh fixes a big annoyance in Firefox:

I hate how Firefox always takes me back a page when I accidentally press the Backspace button. Thanks to Guiding Tech, I've found a solution: Just go into about:config and change Code>browser.backspace_action to 2. No more accidentally going back a page!

Put Bookmark Shortcuts Into Android's Dock

MsCassLopez shares two Android tips in one:

If you have an Android device with Jelly Bean, you can put more than six shortcuts in the Quick Launch bar by simply dragging one shortcut on top of another just like you can on the Home screen.

So, here's something cool you can do with that tip: I assume people have the Chrome browser there. In Chrome, go to the bookmarks page and long press on a bookmark. You have the option to place that bookmark on the home screen. Once it's on the home screen drag it over the Chrome icon to add it to a folder in your Quick Launch bar. Repeat with your favorite bookmarks.

Now, when you tap Chrome's icon, you get the option of going directly to your favorite pages instead of opening Chrome, clicking Bookmarks, and selecting the desired link. In effect, you have created a mini-Start Menu on your device, something that Windows 8 users seem to miss terribly but don't even notice it's not there on their tablets and phones. You can do something similar with your email apps too, or anything else (like Google Voice). You are organizing your shortcuts and getting increased functionality from the Quick Launch bar all at the same time.

Make 3D Glasses More Comfortable When You Wear Normal Glasses

Christine shares a long-desired tip for glasses wearers:

This is a silly looking but useful hack for glasses-wearing peeps going to see The Hobbit and the like in 3D. Bring in a rubber band on your wrist and in the theater rubber band the bridge of your glasses to the 3D glasses. Then the 3D ones won't be constantly threatening to fall off your nose all movie.
