Demi Moore Opens Up: What's Her Biggest Fear?

Demi Moore gets up close and personal in the latest issue of Harper's Bazaar.

Giving her first in-depth interview since splitting from Ashton Kutcher, the actress - who recently landed a major movie role - talks candidly about her biggest fears and insecurities in life.

“I would say what scares me is that I'm going to ultimately find out at the end of my life that I'm really not lovable, that I'm not worthy of being loved," Moore tells the magazine. "That there's something fundamentally wrong with me... that I wasn't wanted here in the first place."

Wow. Talk about honesty.

The actress goes on to address issues of abandonment, saying someone once told her that adults have a "choice" and that worry shouldn't be a concern.

"So I started to rethink. ‘Okay, it’s not that. What’s the underlying thread that really scares me?’ I think what scares me is not having the courage to reach my full potential," she admits.

And it hasn't helped, the star adds, that she's struggled with body image for years. She's only just started to feel okay when she looks in a mirror.

“I think I sit today in a place of greater acceptance of my body," Moore says. "And that includes not just my weight but all of the things that come with your changing body as you age to now experiencing my body as extremely thin - thin in a way that I never imagined somebody would be saying to me, “You’re too thin, and you don’t look good.” I find peace when I don’t see my body as my enemy, when I step back and have appreciation and look at all that my body has done for me.”

That's very good to hear, but it doesn't change the fact that Moore should eat a cheeseburger or two. She is too thin these days.

Battle between Tripoli, Misrata militias kills 4 (Reuters)

TRIPOLI (Reuters) ? Four fighters were killed in a gun battle between Libyan militias in one of Tripoli's busiest streets on Tuesday, a fresh sign that its new government is struggling to control the increasingly fractious groups that overthrew Muammar Gaddafi.

Former rebels from Tripoli controlling a security compound in the capital fought off dozens of fighters from Misrata who were trying to seize a group of prisoners in a gun battle that lasted for more than an hour, medics and former rebels said.

Real power still resides with the militias, more than two months after they captured and killed Gaddafi. Since then, they have carved up the capital and country into competing fiefdoms, each holding out for the share of power they say they are owed.

After the fighting, armed men combed central Tripoli looking for Misratan fighters. A Reuters witness saw them capture one man, swarm around and kick and punch him as he was marched into the compound.

A pickup truck daubed with the words 'The Defence Brigade, Misrata Revolutionaries' lay across the highway, riddled with bullets and with blood stains on the back seat. One fighter said 11 militiamen from Misrata had been captured.

"Some of them screamed 'We're from Misrata, you dogs!' while they were firing," said another Tripoli fighter. "They wanted to take them (the prisoners) by force, they used 106mm (rocket) launchers and 14mm machine guns."

TURF WARFARE

The battle on Tripoli's Zawiya road was the first between militias since December 11, when soldiers from Libya's new national army fought militiamen for control of the capital's international airport.

Rival militias with regional allegiances control several compounds abandoned by Gaddafi loyalists as they were overrun in August. Rebels from Misrata in particular hold a vast arsenal of tanks, rockets and guns.

Militias were given a December 20 deadline to leave the capital. They have dismantled most of their checkpoints and limited their presence on Tripoli's streets since then, but have kept some bases, saying they will only hand them over to the state when adequate security forces are in place.

Vehicles carrying dozens of fighters and heavy caliber machine guns blocked roads leading to the compound and snipers were stationed on rooftops.

"The situation is under control," said Abdel Hakim Belhadj, an Islamist whose Tripoli Military Council says it has a mandate from Libya's new rulers to secure the capital.

"The people who caused the problem were arrested and will face justice," he told reporters.

A few hundred meters down the road at Tripoli's central hospital, dozens of militants filled the corridor leading to the emergency room. A few elderly women, relatives of the dead and injured, sobbed as they hurried towards the hospital.

European shares start year on firm footing (Reuters)

LONDON (Reuters) ? European shares made a positive start to the New Year as they extended a two-week rebound in thin trade on Monday, with automotive stocks and euro zone banks leading the charge.

At 1216 GMT the FTSEurofirst 300 index of European shares was up 0.6 percent at 1006.07, breaking above the full retracement level of the December7-Dec 19 fall.

Volumes on the index registered a slight pick-up from last week's lows but remained thin at 37 percent of the 90-day average as the British and United States markets were closed.

With many fund managers still on holiday, equity markets were driven by short-term trades into sectors enjoying technical rebounds, such as automotives (.SXAP), euro zone banks (.SX7E) utilities (.SX4P) and insurers (.SXIP).

"People are looking for underperformers and rotating sectors every few days," a trader said.

"They're scared and keep their finger ready: if the market inches up, they buy, if it moves down, they don't."

Auto stocks were the top performers as they gained 1.9 percent after breaking above their 200-day moving average at the open, with tire makers Continental (CONG.DE) and Nokian Renkaat (NRE1V.HE) rising 4.7 percent and 2.4 percent, respectively.

The insurance and utilities sectors also outperformed as they broke above the 50 percent retracement of the November sell-off.

EURO ZONE

Euro zone banks rose 1.2 percent after closing above the 38.2 percent Fibonacci retracement level of the November move on Friday.

Natixis argued current valuations on euro zone banks provided a "major buying opportunity," arguing the region's leaders would not allow any default by a large country and the European Central Bank is providing adequate liquidity support to lenders.

"A default by a large euro zone country and/or its withdrawal from the euro is a virtually zero probability event," Natixis said in a note.

"As this event would have catastrophic consequences (on the rest of Europe), there are grounds to think that it will not occur."

The comments came as Greece's central governor warned that exiting the euro would have disastrous consequence for his country and the Greek government reaffirmed its belief that a return to the drachma can be avoided if reforms are implemented.

Natixis also noted euro zone banks have started to reduce their exposure to troubled sovereign debt other than domestic paper, and are working to increase profitability to meet stricter capital requirements.

Around Europe, Germany's Xetra Dax (.GDAXI) and Italy's FTSE Mib outperformed, as they rose 1.9 percent and 1.5 percent respectively, helped by better-than-expected manufacturing data.

Italy's and Germany's PMIs for December were unexpectedly revised up on Friday, while the euro zone reading was kept unchanged at 46.9, pointing to a slowdown in the rate at which the area's manufacturing activity is shrinking.

Stephenson High Schoolvarsity football coach Ron Gartrell and coach Donald Sellers, the defensive coordinator for the Stephenson Jaguars, will take the field today for the Georgia Junior Bowl, touted by its organizers as the first all-star football game of its kind showcasing the top high school football players in the state of Georgia.

Kick off will be at 7 p.m. today at?Grady High School?Stadium. The game will be televised live on ESPN3.

The?purpose of the Georgia Junior Bowl?is to enhance student athletes recruiting exposure before their senior year and to aide in the their development academically, athletically and socially, according to the event's website.

NEW YORK (AP) ? Rutgers coach Greg Schiano was handed the big glass trophy his Scarlet Knights earned by beating Iowa State in the Pinstripe Bowl and had just one thing to say.

"Eric! Eric!" Schiano shouted into the microphone as he stood at midfield at Yankee Stadium and pointed toward the press box. "This one's for you."

Eric LeGrand, bound to a wheelchair more than a year after being paralyzed making a tackle during a game, is still very much a part of Rutgers football.

The former defensive end was shown on the huge video scoreboard while Schiano spoke, busting out a wide grin.

"My heart kind of jumped because I wasn't expecting it," LeGrand told the AP in a phone interview.

He then went to the locker room and celebrated a 27-13 victory with his former teammates. He said he even did a little shoulder dancing.

"That's our brother before and after the injury, and that's how we're going to treat him forever," Rutgers linebacker Khaseem Greene said. "Just having his presence around, it's amazing. He makes the locker room glow."

On the field, it was a couple of redshirt freshmen who lit it up for the Scarlet Knights. Brandon Coleman hauled in an 86-yard touchdown pass in the fourth quarter after Iowa State had trimmed the lead to 20-13, and Jawan Jamison ran for 131 yards and two scores on 27 carries.

"That's what we love to do. That's who we want to be," Schiano said of a running game that struggled much of the season, but seems to be in good hands going forward.

The Scarlet Knights (9-4) ran their bowl winning streak to five and improved to 2-0 this season at Yankee Stadium, where they beat Army last month. Rutgers, which played in one bowl game before 2005, is 5-1 in the postseason under Schiano.

The Cyclones (6-7) finished the season on a three-game losing streak, their last win coming on Nov. 18 in Ames, Iowa, when they pulled off the biggest upset of the season against Oklahoma State.

That night Jared Barnett threw for 376 yards. In this game, Steele Jantz, who started the first six games, relieved Barnett in the second quarter and helped pull the Cyclones within 20-13 in the fourth on Jeff Woody's 20-yard touchdown run with 10:00 left.

"We were not executing in a manner that I felt was going to lead us to a win, and from what we've seen in December's practices, made the switch," Iowa State coach Paul Rhoads said about the quarterbacks.

After an exchange of punts left Rutgers deep in its own end, Chas Dodd went deep to Coleman. The 6-foot-6 Coleman went over 5-7 cornerback Jeremy Reeves, then outran the corner to the end zone to make it 27-13 with 5:47 left.

It was Coleman's only catch, but it turned out to be the play of the game.

"I didn't go out there trying to make a play. I just went out there trying to do my job," Coleman said. "The number was called but I was still calm, cool and collected."

Rutgers grabbed a 7-6 lead early in the second quarter when Jamison powered through a tackler and scored on fourth-and-goal from the 1. On the next possession, Iowa State couldn't handle one of Rutgers' many blitzes, and Greene and Wayne Warren swarmed and stripped Barnett. Scott Vallone scooped up the fumble and returned it 12 yards to the Iowa State 4. The Cyclones managed to hold Rutgers to San San Te's 21-yard field goal.

Jantz replaced Barnett on the next Iowa State series.

The Cyclones' defense didn't hold up as well on Rutgers' next possession. The Scarlet Knights marched 66 yards, 49 on the ground, and Jamison juked his way into the end zone from 12 yards out to make 17-6.

Justin Francis finished Rutgers' strong second half by blocking Zach Guyer's 44-yard field goal attempt with 57 seconds left.

Iowa State jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the first quarter, with Guyer kicking field goals of 40 and 46 yards on the Cyclones' first two possessions. Inaccurate throws by Barnett were key to stalling each drive.

The redshirt freshman was 2 for 7 before giving way to Jantz, who was 15 for 31 for 197 yards and ran for 36 yards.

"Most of it falls on the offense not executing and not what they did," Jantz said. "Not to take away anything from them because they have a great defense, but then again it ultimately comes back to me because I run the offense."

The Scarlet Knights missed the postseason last year for the first time since 2004, but rebounded this season to challenge for the Big East title behind a defense that came in ranked 14th in the nation.

Greene led the charge Friday with 13 tackles, three for losses, before being carted off in the fourth quarter with an ankle injury. The junior was on crutches after the game and said he thinks he'll be OK in the long run.

LeGrand insists he'll be OK in the long run, too, and that he will walk again. His positive vibes have been an inspiration to the Scarlet Knights.

When they received a bowl bid to a site about 45 miles away from their campus in Piscataway, N.J., it made it even easier for LeGrand to be part of the team again. He stayed with his mother in the team hotel and attended all the bowl activities around the Big Apple.

"To have him in the locker room right now with all his buddies, that's special," Schiano said. "That's his senior class."

After Schiano made his short postgame speech, the fans in Yankee Stadium chanted "Eric! Eric!"

"Honestly, this was picture perfect," LeGrand said. "The only thing that would have made it better is if it could have run out there with them."
